Kathakali

This week we invented the amazing game, Katha-party, created a band and it was suggested that you all from now on only communicate in Mudras.

I think this may limit you socially, but what do I know.

loads of resources below- I think Kathakali is a good one for the Research Presentation, because of the strict rules and facial expressions

PowerPoint I tried to steal

Some dude at Rose Bruford (in Sidcup) has a whole collection of Kathakali stuff you can access!

Pantomime (oh no it isn't!)

So we are writing Peter Pan, we divded it up between you. Here are our quick decisions-

Prologue- Tinker Bell is the Dame and tells us about the Darling children left alone at Christmas and how Peter Pan is coming to 'save' them. Go to Neverland meet lost boys etc.

Initial Crisis- Introduce Hook and Smee, insult audience etc. Kidnap Tigerlilly- Smee does something stupid

Resolution- Tigerlilly is saved, Hook runs away from Crocodile

Happy interlude- Wedny cooks for all the lost boys- they make a mess because they are stupid and she has to tidy up after them (Harliquinade)

interval

Hook comes out and explains his more evil plan

Worse crisis- Wendy is kidnapped, Peter doesn't know what to do- Tink persuades him.

Resolution- Peter Pan defeats Hook and rescues Wendy (somehow featuring a song.

Call out and sing-sing- song that reflects the plot in someway, have a dance etc. Fun ensues
.

remember what bit you are doing, just plan it out action by action rather than writing a load of text.

see you on Thursday,
Otley

Comedy of Manners- (Restoration Theatre)

12/14/2014

Most of it is in the Powerpoint, the play we looked at was 'The Country Wife'

Remember; Comedy of Manners exsisted in France to (you did a workshop on it, if you want to see some- click here

Comedy of Manners started in the restoration; but continued into the Georgian era; where Oscar Wilde wrote 'The Importance of Being Earnest' which we worked on on Thursday.

If you want a real master class, here is SImon Callow sharing his pearls of wisdom on Restoration Comedy acting
And here is some American called 'Ian Finley' doing a presentation on Comedy of Manners.

He's not English, but then again neither was Mr. Shake-es-spear (you don't see no Englishman with no spear!)
Downton Abbey is not a Comedy of Manners... Though it is a good example of the Manners system. (It's not a Melodrama either!)

there are a lot of videos on youtube if you want to learn more- https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=comedy+of+manners
