CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
DEWEY FINN (lead): a down-on-his-luck, energetic, wannabe rock superstar. Ideally will play onstage guitar . Range: B2-E5, E2.
ROSALIE MULLINS (lead): the very uptight principal of Horace Green Elementary. It is revealed that she was "not always wound this tight", but the pressure of the parents wanting everything to be perfect has made her into someone she never wanted to be. Range: B3-D6.
NED SCHNEEBLY: Dewey Finn's best friend and pushover roommate. Range: C3-F#4.
PATTY DI MARCO: Ned's bossy girlfriend. She makes no secret of her hatred for Dewey, constantly berating him for his lack of a proper job and inability to pay rent. Range: C4-E5.
ZACK MOONEYHAN (lead): Male or female. Quiet and shy. He was reluctant to be part of the band at first, mostly due to having a very strict father. Plays onstage guitar. Range: A3-C#5 to F5. Must play guitar well, and be happy to sing in a group, but doesn't have to sing on his/her own necessarily; there are a few solo singing lines but these can be sung by other cast members.
LAWRENCE (lead): Male or female. Polite, proper, and mild-mannered, Lawrence is worried that s/he is not cool enough to be in the band. Plays onstage keyboard. Must play piano well, and be happy to sing in a group, but doesn't have to sing on his/her own necessarily; there are a few solo singing lines but these can be sung by other cast members.
FREDDIE (lead): Male or female. More rebellious than the other students. Plays onstage drums. Range: A3-C#5 to F5. Must play drums well, and be happy to sing in a group, but doesn't have to sing on his/her own necessarily; there are a few solo singing lines but these can be sung by other cast members.
KATIE (lead): student at Horace Green; plays onstage bass (and ideally a more classical instrument too). Only sings as part of the group.
SUMMER (lead): Educated, clever, and responsible. As the class prefect, she thinks mostly of succeeding and earning good grades. Range: B3-D5 to A3 & F5. Must be a confident solo singer.
TOMIKA (lead): The new girl at school, and extremely shy. When she decides to finally let her guard down and sing, Tomika becomes the lead singer in the band. Range: A3-D#5, up to G5. Must be a confident solo singer.
MARCY, SHONELLE, SOPHIE, MADISON: (female) students at Horace Green who become a part of the band as vocalists or work behind-the-scenes. Must be confident solo singers.
MASON, JAMES: students at Horace Green who join the band as behind-the-scenes helpers.
BILLY: A student at Horace Green, who becomes the bands stylist. Range: B3-C#5, also A3 up to F5.
'Adult' ensemble will be made up of approx 10 6th form students; they will have a range of solo singing / speaking lines and play roles including TEACHERS at Horace Green, and the PARENTS of the named students.
'Child' ensemble will be made up of approx 10-15 students in Year 7-9 who will be members of the class.
